Haitian Lanterns Light Up Chinese New Year in Egypt

In February, Haitian Lanterns participated in a large-scale Chinese New Year lantern exhibition at New Cairo Family Park, one of the city’s key public parks. The exhibition was part of the “Happy Chinese New Year” cultural program and brought traditional Chinese New Year lanterns into a prominent public space, creating an immersive festive experience for local families and visitors.

This year’s exhibition was especially meaningful as it coincided with the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac. In Chinese culture, the Horse symbolizes energy, progress, confidence, and a positive drive toward the future. It is also associated with vitality, openness, and cross-cultural connection—values that align closely with the spirit of Chinese New Year celebrations held overseas. The selection of the “Auspicious Horse” lantern as the centerpiece reflected these meanings, making it both a festive New Year symbol and a visual expression of friendship and forward-looking cooperation between China and Egypt.

On the opening night, the park was transformed into a vibrant night-time space illuminated with red and gold lanterns, enhancing the Chinese New Year atmosphere. The “Auspicious Horse” lantern was officially illuminated by representatives from the China Cultural Center in Cairo and the park’s management team, marking the start of the public exhibition and welcoming visitors into a rich and interactive festival experience.

Lantern Installations Designed for Public Spaces

For this project, Haitian Lanterns designed and produced six sets of large-scale themed lantern installations, distributed along the main entrance, visitor routes, and key gathering areas of the park.

The lantern designs featured widely recognized Chinese New Year elements, including panda lanterns, gold ingot symbols of good fortune, and a landmark installation combining the Great Wall of China with the Egyptian pyramids.

These installations were designed to be easily understood by international audiences while remaining visually impactful and culturally meaningful.

Bringing Chinese New Year Into Daily Life

During the exhibition period, New Cairo Family Park became a popular evening destination for local residents celebrating the season.

Visitors stopped to take photos, walk through the illuminated routes, and experience Chinese New Year culture in a relaxed and accessible way.

Together with Chinese food experiences inside the park, the lantern exhibition created a complete festive environment, allowing visitors to engage with Chinese New Year traditions beyond visual decoration.

A Proven Overseas Lantern Project

This project demonstrates Haitian Lanterns’ ability to deliver Chinese New Year lantern solutions for overseas public spaces, from design and fabrication to real-world application.

By participating in a government-supported cultural program, Haitian Lanterns continues to expand its international project portfolio and support global cultural exchange through lantern art.
